Year 2

Hello and welcome to our home page!

Hello and welcome to our home page!

In Year 2 we have two classes. Our class teachers are Mrs Younger and Mrs Dexter. We are very lucky to have two trainee teachers also working in our classes this year and they are Miss Johnson and Miss Hudson. On this page, you can find out about the learning that takes place in the classroom. Our learning links to specific topics that are designed to be taught across a two term time period. You can use this page to find out more about the topics we focus on. The page also contains a summary of what we will learn about in each topic. We hope you enjoy having a look at our page!

This term we will be looking at the topic 'The Circus!'

History, Geography & Science

In history, the children will identify and discuss similarities and differences between circuses in the past and in the present. They will also find out about how animals were used in circuses in the past and discuss whether this was right or wrong. In geography, the children will be using maps, atlases and globes to locate and name the seven continents of the world. In science, children will learn to identify, name and compare the properties of a range of materials. The children will also learn to select materials for a specific purpose.

The Arts

Children will be focusing particularly on developing their drawing skills this term and developing a range of techniques to develop shading, shape and tone in their work. Children will also research artists that employ this technique. Children will be encouraged to reflect upon their own work and the work of others and suggest improvements.

PE and Healthy Lifestyles

During PE lessons, children will be learning and improving upon a range of core skills such as throwing, catching, balancing and running. Children will develop their understanding of the importance of warming up and cooling down before and after exercise. Please ensure PE kits are in school Monday to Friday.

Learning for Life

Children will have the opportunity to develop their enterprise skills throughout the term focussing on risk taking, problem solving, team work and decision making. In our Life Sim lesson the children will learn different ways to interact and greet people politely and respectfully. During philosophy sessions the children will discuss school rules and routines and will begin to ask questions about matters that interest them.
